About
The Dutch Australian Society (D.A.S.) Neerlandia, referred to as The Dutch Club, is a well-established social club, located in Frenchs Forest, Sydney. Established in 1954 by Dutch immigrants, the members funded and built their own clubhouse. Between 1945 and 1960 approximately 150,000 Dutch nationals emigrated to Australia. The history of Neerlandia is a tribute to the perseverance, community spirit and optimism of the Dutch people as they integrated to the Northern Beaches of Sydney whilst retaining cultural identity. The club offers Dutch nationals, descendants, or the curious, an opportunity to sharpen language skills, re-live fond memories or introduce a new generation to Dutch culture.
Today, the club offers gezelligheid by way of functions, venue hire, meals, a Dutch Shop, and bar service.
The club opens each Sunday at 11am with freshly ground coffee and a cake always available! Hot meals are available on a rotating specials menu featuring nasi goreng, boerenkool, pannekoeken or an uitsmijter. The kitchen also offers a variety of snacks such as broodjekroket and frikandel. The clubhouse borders Ararat Reserve, a sports oval managed by Warringah Council, which is available for sports events through the council.
The Club fulfils a social and community function for its members and the Dutch community. Functions are held in conjunction with Dutch groups from the Sydney city area and state. Many special events are held each year, dinners and information evenings. The club celebrates Dutch events such as the King's birthday, bevrijdingsdag, LeidsOntzet, and Sinterklaas. The club hosts a Mother's Day Lunch, Veteranendag Lunch, Winter in July event, Melbourne Cup Day Lunch, Klaverjas tournaments, and special events on Valentine's Day.
